ATTN:  New Gardeners and Reminder To Old Gardeners!
By Becky Blakcstock

If you are the last to leave the garden, please make sure that everything is locked up.  That includes the kitchen, the tool shed, the greenhouse, & the wheelbarrow shed.  Please do this even if you weren't the one that opened them.  Last Saturday afternoon, everything was left open.  And don't forget to spin the locks!

We're Digging Up Dahlia Tubers!
By Donna Kalka

We will be dividing tubers this Wednesday, April 18th (5 pm to dusk) and Saturday April 21 (from 10 am to 2 pm).

Volunteers are encouraged to contact donna.kalka@gmail.com.

If you have dahlia's growing in your garden and want to contribute extra tubers to the sale, by all means, let us help you dig them up. Please do not leave unmarked dahlia tubers on the free table for us. We want to know what we are selling.

Thanks!

2012 - 2013 Interbay P-Patch Budget Brainstorm Results
By Donna Kalka

Earlier this year, Leadership Team coordinators Jude Berman and Donna Kalka asked Leadership Team members to submit budget request items with the intent of enhancing the  gardening experience at Interbay P-Patch. No restrictions were put on the collective brainstorm. All ideas would be considered for 2012 and 2013 implementation.

The response was impressive:

~ a sturdier picnic table to ensure safe dining at the Salmon Bake fundraisers
~ better quality hoses
~ tools: spade fork, short D handle shovel, long blade machete, loppers
~ pennant flags, poles, & new A-boards for drawing attention to revenue generating activities
~ grape arbor repair or rebuild
~ compost bins repair, rebuild or replacement
~ bee hive compound expansion
~ replacement of the rotting wood platform beneath port-o-potty
~ a new gas grill for Food Bank Gardening and Friday night potlucks, July 4th picnic, ~ Chef-in-the Garden back-up

At the Gardeners Gathering on March 17, Leadership Team ratified the 2012 budget with the following caveats:

~ sustainability to be considered for all project requests - for example, our current greenhouse was used and donated
~ further discussion is needed on the compost bins before a decision is made
~ design plans must be submitted and approved by City of Seattle staff for large-scale built structures

Your elected Leadership Team is the decision-making body for project proposals and budget expenditures. Gardener input is welcome and essential to good decision-making. Here are some ways you can participate in the decision-making process:

1) Attend a proposed project presentation - Read your Interbay P-Patch newsletter
2) Come to a Leadership Team Meeting: May 26, July 14, Sept 8 in the garden at 12:30 pm
3) Engage in a dialog with your representatives via mail, face-to-face or phone

Jude and Donna also encourage you to send your project ideas and budget proposals to your Treasurer,Becky Blackstock at becky.blackstock@comcast.net who will bring them to the attention of Leadership Team for consideration.

Thank you.!
