It All Begins With Soil!
By Ray Schutte

As you get your garden ready for the upcoming season,  consider having your soil tested.  You can submit up to 5 samples and have them tested for FREE through the King County Soil Conservation District.

Here is how:

http://www.kingcd.org/pdf/fact-sheet-soil-testing.pdf.

Your soil will be tested for organic matter, nitrogen, Phosphorous, Calcium Sodium Sulphur, trace minerals, cations and ph.  The test comes back with a set of recommendations and a guide to interpretation.   A basic soil test will help you determine what your soil needs.

By Susan Casey

With your vote, this upcoming P-Patch can win $10,000 in the Umpqua Bank Build Your Block contest.

To vote on-line, go through your Facebook page to www.facebook.com/umpquabank for the Magnolia branch and vote for the 'Magnolia P-Patch toolshed and tools'.  Voting is Mar 12-31.  You can only vote once for us on Facebook.  Note:  I found just typing in 'umpqua' in the search line on the  Facebook line worked best.  Then look for apps or Build your Block line.

Plus, you can vote in person once a day throughout the voting period at the Magnolia (2236 32nd Ave W) Umpqua bank next to Bartells.

Tell your friends.  Spread the word.

Our Four Legged Friends and Rat Traps
By Sandy Pernitz

Hi Everyone,

I got an email from the folks who walk the dogs wondering about the rat traps folks have in their plots.  They are very respectful as they walk the garden, picking up after the dogs and not allowing them into plots, and staying on pathways.  But, they are dogs and they see with their noses, so when they sniff into a plot if the trap is too close to the edge it can snap those wet eyes.

We are making a request to all of you, please set the traps away from the pathway and more inside your plot.

Thank you for your time,

Sandy Pernitz
