Greetings!

As all the preseason preparation continues, there are always ways to get a jump start on your garden.  The Leadership Team has been hard at work planning the year and is very excited, and we hope you are getting excited too!

The newsletter is still in preseason mode, so there isn't a full issue every week yet.  If there is something to send out, I'll send it out.  If you have anything to submit, please submit them to me by Tuesday for the Wednesday release.  Send submissions by replying to the current newsletter or sending an email to Terry Hunt at interbaypppatch@gmail.com This is a new email address from last year.

Happy Gardening~

Block Leader Needed For Blackberry Vista
By Jude Berman

The Block Leaders facilitate communication among gardeners in their blocks, assist in monitoring activities, garden plots and paths, and keep leadership team coordinators and the Program office informed of issues needing attention.  They are contact point for gardeners needing assistance when away, ill, or otherwise unable to care for their gardens temporarily.  They also coordinate gleaning for the food bank and coordinate the Saturday Soup lunches when it's their blocks' turn.

This is a great way to get involved and help out others...not to mention an awesome way to earn hours counting toward your required volunteer garden hours.

Call or email Jude Berman if you would like to become a Blackberry Vista Block Leader.  206-281-4226 or judithberman@comcast.net

A Garden Blog Is Coming
By Terry Hunt

Great News...I am almost finished with the Interbay P-Patch Garden Blog.  This is another way that we can communicate, discuss, and share our love of gardening.  In future newsletters I will have all the details for you.

Have You Renewed Your Plot For The 2012 Gardening Season?
By Sandy Pernitz

The Department of Neighborhoods sent out an email plot renewal notice during the winter holidays. If you have printed out the renewal form, filled it out, written a check and mailed it in, terrific. If not, please check your email (and possibly spam mail) for the notification.

If you did not find an email and did not renew your plot, please contact Sandy Pernitz, Community Garden Coordinator for Interbay @ 206-684-0284 or sandy.pernitz@seattle.gov and let her know you want to garden with us this year.

Rat Traps In The Garden
By Jude Berman

It has been brought to our attention that there are live rat traps in some areas of the garden, and even in pathways.  If you are choosing to use traps in your plot, please only put them in your own plot and keep them out of the public walkways.  We would not want to have someone's child or pet accidentally set one off and injure them self.  The animal shelter has been alerted that there may be traps around and to be careful when they walk dogs through the garden.
